Listening to what matters to LASD families
The core purpose of the LASD Board of Trustees is good governance, responsible stewardship of community resources, and representation of community values in our schools. I have the experience necessary get it right.
01 — One Site, One School
Sharing campus space at Egan and Blach with BCS doesn’t benefit LASD students or BCS students. LASD’s middle school sites are overcrowded, and neither LASD nor BCS students have the space and facilities they need to thrive.
LASD’s new San Antonio campus, now under construction, will help alleviate the overcrowding of LASD’s middle schools.
LASD Board policy toward BCS should reflect an effort to locate each school (including BCS) on its own campus, and put an end to cramming multiple schools into a single site.
02 — Los Altos Schools for Los Altos Students
The overcrowding of LASD’s middle school campuses is exacerbated by increased out-of-district students enrolling at BCS. The result is that Egan and Blach students now share their campuses with BCS students not just from Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, but from the entire Bay Area, with LASD footing the bill for facilities.
BCS’ enrollment growth aspirations should not come at the cost of giving away vital LASD resources to out-of-district students.
Let’s use Los Altos resources for the benefit of Los Altos students.
03 — Giving Teachers the Tools They Need
Great students need great teachers. I have always championed giving teachers the resources, opportunities, and continuing education that make LASD a great place for them to work and a great place for children to learn.
Continuing education and professional development opportunities for LASD teachers allow LASD students to benefit from research-backed methodologies and curriculums.
Encouraging classroom innovation to make learning engaging and enjoyable.
04 — Clear, Coordinated, and Effective Fundraising
In Los Altos, we tend to think of school funding as a three-legged stool, comprised of LASD itself, the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF), and each school’s PTA. This approach is unnecessarily complicated, and creates unwanted competition between the three legs, taking away from the core shared goal of maximizing educational opportunities for our students, and turning an ordinary education into an LASD education. The formation of Los Altos Education Partners in 2026 is the first step toward a unified fundraising mission that benefits all LASD schools and students.
The LASD Board should promote fundraising policies that improve outcomes for all LASD students and simultaneously improve the experience for all LASD families.
